    Shannon’s Lumber Industry Update
Great podcasts. Shanon thanks for sharing your much needed industry knowledge. Selecting lumber for a project is one of five essential components for a successful fine furniture project. Listening to this podcast has improved my knowledge and my wood selection and therefore improved my projects. Keep up the good work Shannon.

Shannon and guests are simply awesome
I’ve listen to Shannon on Woodtalk for years, and was one of the guys that said, “Marc, give him the jingle and let’s get Shannon’s educated and experienced facts, opinions and advice for an hour!” And now, that is precisely what we have. Love the discussion, knowledgeable guests, humor, and industry tribal knowledge that is shared on practically every episode. Oh, and Shannon is pretty good too. Lol
  • EdgarSonneborg
    Great
Technically head over heals compared to other podcasts. Not just a chat to chat podcast.
  • themaciac
Technical and economic understanding of wood
This is a great resource for learning how to source lumber as well as having an understanding of good use cases for particular species of lumber. Information from this podcast helped me find and go to a sawmill for the first time and feel good about the price of my purchase.
  • OMMerk
    Oh my
Episode 30 wow self righteous. Virtue signal much? It’s a shame you feel the need to lecture. COVID didn’t bring the best out of you.
  • gameplayer1988
    Great show!
I’ve listened to the “other” podcast and this is so much better! Shannon is so good at explaining things in layman’s terms and I’ve learned a lot in just a short time listening. None of the corny jokes, just real useful information.
  • snibidibi
I learnt a lot from this podcast
I learnt a lot about the lumber industry and wood from this podcast, and I suspect that you will too. I’m not going to lie, sometimes it’s a bit long winded, and a bit repetitive, but there’s still a lot of information there.
  • Mr Puskarich
    Great resource
Great resource on the fundamental properties of wood, how it grows, and how to properly use it. It is definitely worth a listen and subscription.
  • mysoleisblack
    Invaluable resource
A tremendous resource on the properties of wood and lumber itself as well as market trends.
  • Denny M
    Didn’t see that coming...
The title of the podcast buries the lead..this might be the best woodworking podcast out there. There are other woodworking podcasts I enjoy, but none that I routinely learn from as much as this one. The host explained wood movement in laymen’s terms better than anyone I’ve ever come across. It does, of course, cover the lumber industry extensively, and does so with a ‘freakinomics’ flair that even my non-woodworking wife admits she finds interesting.
  • Barriowoodworks
    Shannon knows!
There are many woodworking podcast that talk about everything but woodworking! Shannon, gives you an insiders point of view of the lumber industry, in layman’s terms. I can tell that Shannon prepares for each podcast. It’s like attending a college lecture minus the boring aspect. Fascinating stuff!
  • the burning inch
    Great stuff
Such a great resource. I always learn a thing or 10 about the lumber industry.
  • Ssibcch
    Good stuff
Who knew that I cared about the lumber industry. Turns out I do, at least when Shannon is talking about it. Also, I just listened to the June 15th episode and got a little choked up. Lumber and life lessons, thank you, sir.
  • M&WK
    Great Information
Excellent, excellent podcast. Shannon's knowledge of lumber as well as the indusry is absolutly a fountain of knowledge, litterally so much information in each show its hard to take it all in. When Shannon decides to transcribe these epodcasts and publish a book, I will be one of the first in line to purchase a copy. Very well done podcast. Wayne Kuhn

Goto guy for lumber inside info
Shannon always has great content and does a wonderful job of explaining user submitted questions. He answered mine in detail and it gave me a great understanding of why sometimes lumber is hard to find. If your a wood worker and want to keep informed about different species this is a great podcast to listen too.
  • vadim.13
    Of course it’s AWESOME!!
At first I was like: How good could this podcast possibly be - it’s just a lumber industry update?! But it’s SHANNON’S lumber industry update! Of course it’s AWESOME!!
  • cstowers
    Great podcast
Great podcast, very informative. Definitely give it a listen!
  • Turn Table Creations
    Awesome !!!
Awesome show !!!!!!!! I'm really happy I came by this podcast, great information for this new woodwork (I.e Hobbyist in Suffolk VA lol )
  • Blackbeard-4590
    Lots of great info
For the wood workers, this a an oasis of wonderful information. So often when shopping for the precious commodity of, let’s face it, expensive, materials that go into our creations, the retail market is, at best dicey when trying to get real and detailed information about our purchase. This show brings clear and easily understandable explanation of the universe of lumber, which in most retail stores, you only get the obvious or a blank stare from the “I just work here” folks or the ones who definitively respond with the information already written on the tag. Thanks for giving us the real information....finally.
  • Are-Jay01
Great information you’re not going to find anywhere else!
I’m super excited Shannon decided to keep up doing the lumber industry update. This show is packed with knowledge from being in the industry delivered in a clear, easily understandable format. Keep up with the great show and thank you.

This is a really good podcast. I always enjoyed listening to Shannon on Woodtalk. He would have been an awesome shop teacher.
  • Sideburns85
Best podcast on wood out there!

    Spag and the Giggler
I’ll 2nd or 3rd or whatever the idea that Matt and Mark should come on for a guest segment every podcast and y’all can talk about woodworking. It’s great hearing Shannon ramble on about the industry, it was sorely missed. Welcome back, Shannon. Thank you for all your hard work (seriously, thank you!)
  • Tdoe4
Great perspective on the tragic fire at Notre Dame.
Glad your back. Always found the lumber industry update interesting. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to upcoming shows.

    Woodtalk 2.0
Thanks for bringing this back. It was a fun part of woodtalk, so its nice to hear this as it was part of my daily commute. Now he just needs two other co-hosts and for them to talk about knitting 😉
  • @chefturnedwood
A podcast that doesn’t belong in the slop sink!
Thanks Shannon for continuing this epic and for all the great information! Looking forward to the future episodes and just enjoyed the WoodTalk Booty Call!
  • JohnMcJr
First, but also this is a blessing.
It’s a bit lacking of the giggling. And the facial hair is lacking. But all in all I’d say Mr Rogers. No wait wrong guy. Shannon has an overall handle on this. Best of luck and I’ll be here for all you have to share. Thank you.
  • Sparecr
    Hats off!
I am expecting this to be more of the great info from the old Woodtalk segment. Had to review now so I could be the first review.
  • reedwilk
    Next level wood nerdery!
Was always a huge fan of this segment on WoodTalk! Shannon’s knowledge of wood and the lumber industry is extraordinarily valuable. I’m glad you got the jingle out of that quitter Marc’s hands!
  • Jehosefrat
    Simply Scrumptrillescent
This podcast is woody and hard. Invariably excellent.
  • CornDog4008
    So glad!
    Great content and entertaining!
  • badattaxes
    Elated!
Shannon is a trusted educator and woodworker. I take his word to heart. He works in a lumber yard and has his finger on the pulse of the industry. Shannon’s Lumber Industry Updates were my favorite segment on his previous podcast and I was heartbroken when they all quit (but also didn’t?). I am overjoyed by the news of this stand alone podcast. Best of luck and I can’t wait for future episodes!
