  • Seriously an Idiot
    Sure
Five stars because it's a noise podcast and possibly the only one of its kind. The crosstalk is driving me crazy though. Wish it was funnier and not just trying-to-be-funny. Please be funnier and talk less. I am aware of how ridiculous I sound saying that FYI

    More than just noise
Just as the title suggests, even though their main focus is noise music, they do branch out and have guests or just talk about artist or bands that are not solely noise. (But closely related). It is definitely one of my favorite podcasts to listen to and probably the top when It comes to music. Tara, Mike, and Greh have great taste in my opinion and just love listening to them chat and interview guests. Just started contributing to their Patreon and if you like the podcast, you should as well.

    Unforgivable
The guy who left a negative review for this podcast because he reach out to a guest and “was lambasted for disagreeing with their prices” is an irredeemable loser

The Diners Drive Ins & Dives of Noise
This podcast makes me want to listen to noise like Guy Fieri makes me want to eat food. If you think Guy Fieri is gross, even better.

    Horrible customer service.
Long time listener. Reached out to one of their guests to buy music and was lambasted by the artist for disagreeing with their prices. Anyway, I’m leaving my furnace on for 5 hours and recording it with my phone while I’m asleep. Then I’m going to tell people it’s Chernobyl. Nuanced!

    Highly recommended!
I’ve been a patreon subscriber since day one and the content just keeps getting better. Highly recommend this podcast for anyone who has even a passing interest in noise. I’ve discovered a handful of awesome artists and records I’d probably never have heard thanks to the NOISEXTRA gang. The enthusiasm and love for noise that Tara, Mike and Greh bring to each episode is infectious!

    Essential listen!
This is pretty much the only podcast that I listen to regularly. These folks have a scholarly knowledge of Noise, but they are still rabid fans and their unadulterated passion for the music and culture is infectious. As a long time Noise fan I’ve had plenty of friends fail to understand my love of the genre. I’ve suggested that some of them listen to the episode where Skin Crime are interviewed about the Music Should Hurt compilation with great success. There’s no better primer that I can think of.

    Hard to top this
Despite its title, this is a podcast for open-minded, curious fans of music in general. You don't really need to have any clear understanding of what precisely noise music is (or is not) coming into this. The background and description given for each featured release should provide listeners with enough to start with, and it's not terribly hard to find at least something by each artist online, even if it's not the exact same release, so the listener can enjoy their own subjective experience along with the hosts. At the same time, noise heads shouldn't get bored either. I learn something new every episode, plus listening to Greh, Mike, and Tara share their personal perspective invites me to reconsider releases I haven't thought about in years or even dismissed as being less vital than other releases by the same artist. All of the guests and interviews are top-notch as well. I hope they keep doing this for a long, long time.

    7 stars tbh
Perfect. If you like noise and you aren’t into this podcast... you don’t like noise. Greh and Mike doing deep dives on critical releases in the history of the genre is not just important work that fosters an entry point for subcultural heritage in a fragmented scene, but more importantly it is FUN to listen to!!!

    A highlight of my week.
A great podcast to nerd out on. Merzcast was great, this is better! Greh and Mike are awesome. The addition of Tara has made it even better. I love the addition of segments. MORE SEGMENTS!!! I’d like an exploration into the art, imagery and subject matter explored in noise. And hearing thoughts on that from the three of you. There is so much to talk about with noise I can’t wait to see where this podcast goes as it evolves. Nice work you three! And keep the guests coming. I’m writing this before listening to the 2+ hour Haters episode. I’m gonna savor it. Thanks guys!

    Yes!
Full disclosure: I am a huge Merzbow fan. But I really think this show would appeal to anyone who appreciates music nerdery, even if you haven't heard Merzbow. The hosts' passion is infectious and reminds me why I got into noise music. I think it will probably make some new noise fans too, which is exciting. Check it out!

    That Good Good
MERZCAST is already off to a great start! Noise dudes gush about the master of noise, delivering personal anecdotes and a bit of trivia. And it’s not just the big albums but deep cuts too. If you’re into noise, you need to be into this.

this rules. geeks geeking out over noise. at first I was disappointed there wasn’t more time spent going over the releases sound by sound but then I realized how boring an hour of subjective analysis of noise would be. they discuss the track names, production, art, little backstories and yes the sound too. look forward to many more episodes.
