Disco Inferno 74The “A”-listers of Comics PodcastsI’m extremely late to this Who’s Who party, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t offer up an obligatory rave review. Shag and Rob offer up a podcast—not just the Who’s Who Podcast, but also the long-tenured Fire and Water Podcast—that is perfectly listenable, re-listenable, and re-listenable again. On top of rating a 10 out of 10 in evergreen-ness (is that a word?)—- the Who’s Who and F&W Podcasts stand out in that they’re riveting and evocative of nostalgia (so much of it wrapped up in that first glimpse of Perez’s Aquaman, Atom, and Animal Man staring at me from the spinner rack), but at the same time, they’re crazily suitable for just peacefully having in the background. Any time you two fellas see fit to churn out more content, I am here for it. *Impact* Loose-Leaf edition…. let’s do this!

8brett8Ultimate homage to 80s DCRob and Shag bring the band back together to cover DC’s classic Who’s Who series. Fun conversation, smart critiques, and tons of fun! Listen to it!

boldrobinGreat comic duo covering great comic booksRob and Shag have great chemistry as the look at DC Comics’ various attempts to outdo the Encyclopedia Brittanica with profiles of DC’s colourful characters and concepts. It’s a fun and nostalgic look at the pop culture past.

aeboycejrReliving childhoodI have been listening to all episodes Enjoying "almost" every moment. I have laughed. I have cried (from laughing). As others have said, listening to this podcast has caused my list of podcasts to grow. Now that I am at this point I will eagerly wait new episodes. Thank you Rob and Shag. Allen Boyce

Plainsong1987Why I love the DC UniverseThis podcast reminds me of why I love the DC Universe. In 1988 I received a comic book collection from ove of my moms coworkes. The collection had a little bit of everything. Crisis, Secret Wars, Amazing heroes, OHOTMU, and every copy of Who's Who. I used to spend hours pouring over the entries in Whos Who memorizing the caracters histories and the art. The art was and is so amazing, a reminder what has made DC so great from the Gold, Silver, and Bronze age. For anyone who apreciates DC nostalgia and listening to Shag murder Monsieur Mallah's name everytime he says it, This is a podcast for you.

Frank BennyWHO CARES ~!I found out about this podcast at the beginning of the Pandemic and I’ve been listening thru ALL of the episodes. So much fun. Reminds me of the Before Times when I would meet up with my friends and have Serious Talks about these characters, artists and stories. This podcast in my nightly listening while working or cleaning Great job Rob & Shag

ESB JrReady Late to The Who’s Who PartJust found your podcasts a few weeks ago after receiving my Who’s Who Omnibus. I’m really enjoying the discussions about each characters, the artwork, and the art teams. Even 9 year old podcasts are still entertaining and enjoyable. I like the friendly banter between the co-hosts and find myself wanting answer their questions and provide information they don’t know about characters and artists but I’m sure many listeners already did it for me already. I’ve been a DC collector going back to 1974. I’m only on issue VIII and have a long way to go to catchup but I’m enjoying the trip down memory lane. Edwin

Al GerdingA lot of funShagg and Rob are internet buddies starting a podcast. However, they are about to fail their comic history class, which means Shagg would be sent to military school. They receive help from a time traveler from a future where their podcast is the foundation for a perfect society. With the use of a time machine, Shagg and Rob travel to various points in comic history, returning with important issues of the DC's Who's Who comic series to help them complete their final comic history presentation

rlsharp77Top Notch PodcastKudos for Rob and Shag!!!! If your a fan of DC comics this is a dream come true!!!!

msg270108Great For DC FansI discovered this podcast right before the Covid-19 Shutdown, and it has been a valuable and entertaining companion during this very strange time. Rob and Shag lead listeners on a nostalgic, often humorous journey through this legendary series. Highly recommended if you’re a longtime DC fan.

Rick-ick-ick X.This podcast was always needed as a companion to the legendary comic, and now we have it!Nowadays, folks who are nostalgic for 1980s goodness need not go far to find podcasts and other online content for that interest. Same for folks who are into DC superheroes and enjoy discussions thereof. So, is there anything special that makes the Fire & Water Network "Who's Who Podcast" really that much of a must-listen for those of us interested in the DC Universe of thirty-mumble years ago? Yes, yes there is. This podcast is your page-by-page audio annotation-a-rama to accompany the "Who's Who" comics you already treasure. Your hosts, Rob Kelly and the Irredeemable Shark, are funny and informative in equal measure, their fan knowledge and interests supplementing one other, but here's the genius of the show: The boys move so briskly along through each issue that no page is lingered on too long, while somehow they deliver so many interesting facts throughout, that each episode is long-form podcast listening bliss. Listeners of this show and the network it's on will enjoy the quasi-combative banter and recurring jokes. Fans of the comic "Who's Who" will find that this is the show they've always needed to complement it, and here it is. Not only is this show itself worth your time, but it also inspires terrific listener feedback below each episode post on the Fire & Water website. How else can you know what all that discussion is about? Only one way: listen and subscribe today! (And don't forget Slipknot.)

GothamchrisOne of the best podcasts about the DC Universe.A fun podcast that covers several different DC Who’s Who series. Rob and Shag always keep things light and entertaining as they describe every entry. From the catchy theme song to the letters page full of listener feedback this is a great show. Which is amazing because I don’t think the hosts like each other. I just hope they can keep it together until they get through the loose leaf edition of Who’s Who.

CaptainEntropyLet me tell you Who’s Who and What’s WhatThis show is tied for the title of “Most Consistently Entertaining Podcast” on an amazing network. Its only rival has an ensemble cast dominated by exotic and insightful French Canadian women. (That one’s also slightly less safe for work). Rob and Shag’s discussions are entertaining on almost any topic, but Who’s Who is an unparalleled cornucopia of rapid-fire material. Furthermore, the informative and humorous audience comments alone would be worth the price of admission (which is paid in time, usually while commuting). I would have reviewed sooner, but Shag went through an ugly phase (not a Batman phase) at the beginning. He actually attempted to bully listeners into reviewing. One must never bow to terrorism — not even when the threat is entirely negligible, as in this case. Now that I’m finally reviewing this wonderful podcast, I shall comply with the obligations of the Fire and Water Network user agreement (written by Rob) and correct Shag on some things: First, Shag, you have commented that you tend to call the OSS “OSI” by mistake. Your tone indicated that you think this is a silly mistake, as though OSI only existed in Eagle Eye and the Six Million Dollar Man, unlike the OSS heroes of World War II. Let me assure you, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations is real. It is analogous to the Department of the Navy’s NCIS, except that OSI employs both active duty military and civilian investigators. NCIS investigators are all civilians. The second correction regards an omission: the Balloon Buster is closely based on a real World War I hero, First Lieutenant Frank Luke of Arizona. Luke was the second aviator to earn the Medal of Honor and the first to receive it posthumously (i.e., “the usual way”; no one is bucking for a Medal of Honor). Luke Air Force Base outside Phoenix is named for him. The excellent comics blog “I’m Tha Gun” covers Luke’s history, as do many other sources on the web. Considering what he contributed to the character and what it cost him, he deserves a mention. So Who actually is Who? Well, here it is: Rob is Bert. Shag is Ernie. Think about it.

GolddragonWho's Awesome in the Podcast Universe.I jumped into Who's who with the 1990 Binder series. Rob and Shag did a great job running through the first issue and as I really only just started listening, I"m binging the series now with my two Binders on my desk (I currently have them Bound in issue order (covers and all. The Blue Binder Has issues 1-9 and the second Binder has 10-16 plus the updates (those are really hard to find nowadays btw!) (although, when they first came out, I often bought several copies to make special "Files" On specific groups/families. (Batman, Superman, Flash Justice League etc..) This series was my introduction to the DCU (prior to this I had only been reading Star Trek (published by DC at the time) and the bat-books (following the Death of Robin and the Batman 89 movie) It helped me get to know the DC Universe (as it currently stood so that as I started buying more and more comics from different series, I wasn't as lost as I would have been if I was coming in Cold. I agree with Rob somewhat on miissing out on the obscure characters from the (then) 54-55 years of DC history. However, as I had several comic shops in my area at the time, I was always able to go back and buy the original Who's Who to get that Pre-Crisis Information. Sometimes ya just gotta go with the back issues. Awesome job Guys!

Mikez33Top notch stroll down memory laneJLI Bwa-ha-ha was my intro to the network, and now I’m checking out their other shows. This one is a great stroll down memory lane. Great network of podcasts, they ducked me in. Well played guys....
-
James HusseyAlways inspiringThis is the podcast that made me want to be a podcaster. The two hosts have a genuine joy for the material and their enthusiasm made me want to hunt down these issues and characters. This podcast “don’t miss” for me. Great guys and great material. I found my joy.
-
Mr. TharringtonFantastic flashbacksMaybe my memory isn’t so bad after all! Every time I listen to Rob and Shag go through one of the 80s issues I can see each illustration in my head as clear as day, even ones I haven’t re-read in years. (Especially any where “she’s hot!”) Thanks for a terrific podcast, guys!
-
The_Great_ChaFeenoWonderful Stuff! This is the zaniest idea of a podcast ever, yet it somehow works brilliantly. It provides a loving snapshot of the state of the DC Universe from the mid 80s into the mid 90s, a period when DC produced some very creative series. Every character and creator get their due here, and it's a joy to listen to!
-
That Old Comic SmellTerrific! (Fair Play)A really fun, informative show that I just recently discovered and will be listening to from the very beginning! Hoping for more Who’s Who Presents showcase episodes, really great stuff!
-
timprice17Find the joyAre you a DC superhero fan? Do these new-fangled podcast contraptions confound and stymie you? Then the Who's Who podcast is for you! Back in the 90's, the internet was in its infancy, and learning the history about characters required finding individual issues. Until Who's Who. Shag and Rob continue their review, exploration, and lovefest of the writing, artwork, and characters in this unique publication into the 90's loose-leaf edition, truly a product of its time that would not be published in today's Google culture. The hosts bring endless joy, gripes, and humor for an entertaining ride. So grab a binder and join the fun!
-
Alex osiasCome home to Who's WhoLike a Grand Central Station for DC Fandom, this podcast pulls together not only characters, locations, and gear from all corners of the DC universe, but also some of the most informed, outspoken, and geeky podcast fans from around the world! Hosted by the Irredeemable Shag and the Refined Rob Kelly, this show is sure to evoke nostalgia, joy, and the occasional nerdfight!
-
Sean42AZWho’s (Who) On First? This show is a tour de force. Rob and his special friend cover the seminal DC series Who’s Who in all its glory. After decades of hinting about it, they have finally arrived at the amazing loose leaf edition. Join them as they dive into a beloved period of DC history. Thanks, guys, for bringing some real joy to a heavy world. Sean Pulp2pixel Podcast Network

KyleBenning41Nostalgic Feel GoodsOne of the Top 5 greatest comic podcasts available on the internet. A fantastic podcast devoted to the various DC Who’s Who series. Rob & Shag knock the coverage out of the park resulting in an entertaining audio trip down memory lane. It’s a homerun! 5 stars!
-
Converge241The definitive podcast of the podcast universeShag and Rob are the Cain and Abel of the House of Whos Who. Through their expertise of the DC Universe and comics history along with their humerous insights they will walk both newcomers and old veterans alike through the vast history of the DC Universe. This podcast is directly responsible for me purchasing a new set of the original series as well as a first time purchase of the looseleaf. Ive also been turned onto numerous trade recomendations I may have passed before. Speaking of recomendations The hosts will go out of their way to spread the word about tangently related podcasts and blogs. If you have not tried this show and you are a comic fan you are doing yourself a disservice! Thanks!
-
DC Comics VaultThe first podcast that has kept my attention.I am a die-hard DC comics fan and absolutely love this show. Rob and Shag do a great job describing the characters (art and history) so that everyone can learn something. Whether you know the characters first appearances by memory or are hearing about them for the first time you will enjoy this team. I have tried to listen to other podcasts over the years but while the topics were interesting the hosts were lackluster. With The Who’s Who podcast you get it all. I have even branched out to try the other podcasts on their network. Keep up the great work.

SergebombaHeading to Apokolips AND leaving a positive review. Ha!Both my DC origins and FWPodcasts origins are tied to Who’s Who. Years ago I needed Who’s Who as a necessary supplement for diving headfirst into Crisis as my 1st DC read (I’ve been beyond help since day 1); flash forward, this particular podcast was my introduction to Shag, Rob Kelly, and the wonderful world & cast of characters at Fire & Water. While others could maybe see a series like this as an insurmountable chore, for old school comic nerdgeekdorks like me it’s pure manna from heaven - books like this were Wikipedia before Wikipedia, and both Shag & Rob make the audial travels thru these books (both bound and looseleaf) a fun & informative experience. Highly recommended to you fellow kids, both young and old, who enjoy delving into these long ridiculous decades of comics material and hold encyclopedic books like Who’s Who close to your heart.
-
Chuck ColettaWonderful Comics HistoryThis is a truly fun and informative retrospective look at the history and characters of the pre-Crisis DC Comics universe. Hosts Tob and Shag are longtime DC readers who know their stuff & convey their insights on the classic "Who's Who" series in an engaging & enthusiastic way. If you want to learn more about DC Comics history - this podcast is for you. Highest rating!
-
TrivTrivBest Comic Book Podcast EverAs a young man who was equally nerdy for DC Comics and reference material, I worshipped the Who's Who comic series when it was released, and the team of Rob and Shag does an expert job of pushing my geekiest nostalgia buttons. Knowledgeable, entertaining, likable, self-depracating, and appropriately joyful, Shag and Rob (notice how I switched order?) are masterful hosts, deserving of such iconic material. More, please, soon, thank you.
-
JacovnyDisappointing political biasI tuned into my first episode tonight, a Star Trek focused episode, and one of the host took an off-putting shot at our president. So, I'm out. If you're not bothered by liberal bias, I'll say that the hosts are genuinely talented, with solid chemistry. But the subject matter (essentially encyclopedia entries for fictional characters) is tough to make very entertaining if you're not a major D.C. fanatic like myself.
-
CanadaClarkSo, someone wants a review, huh? This is by far the betterest show that these two knobs, Rob and Shagg, do together. Sure, they do other shows too, like the Fire & Water Podcastand some others. But let's be real, those shows don't compare to Who's Who. I warmly welcome their playful hated of one another every month, as well as Shagg's inane banter on which character is hot. You'll be hard pressed to find a better, more timely show about 30-year-old comic books. Keep up the good work guys.
-
Council of GeeksKnow Your Masterworks from Your MortsRob and Shag ribbing each other and praising or condeming DC heroes in equal measure never gets old. I'm not even that much of a DC guy and this is still always a blast to listen to.
-
Another Mark C.Found my joyRob and Shag often talking about "finding your joy," and DC in the 80s is definitely my jam. As I was introduced as a child to a whole universe (and multiverse) of heroes, the "Who's Who" series helped me catch up on all the history and characters I didn't know. I poured over this series (and OHOTMU) for hours as my parents dropped me off at Waldenbooks while they went mall shopping. Rob and Shag's show reminds me of all the good times I had, back when it was cool for parents to leave their young children in public bookstores for an hour. Thanks for all the hours of entertainment, and I'm looking forward to Star Trek and the Legion episodes.
-
Thelonius16It's definitive. It says so right in the title...Rob and Shagg taught the world what a surprint is. That in itself makes this show worthy of praise. These guys have a healthy mix of a critical eye and a genuine love for the material. They also appreciate a good Copy Editor. The "letters page" of listener feedback at the end is cool too. You have to appreciate their sense of community. Because they read every review on the show, I'm going to take the time to remind myself to change the filter in my air conditioner.
-
gotmapsWho's Who? This is Who!As a long time fan of the Who's Who comics, I devoured the comics when they came out. These comics were a blast to read. I poured over my copies time and time again, well into the 90s. I grew out of reading comics, and sent my Who's Who copies out into the world years ago. But I never lost my love of indexing everything about a comic character, especially those at DC. You can imagine my surprise and excitement when I stumbled upon this podcast. It was right up my alley! Rob and Shag do a fantastic job of painting a picture of the book, as you're listening. When they say you don't have to have the comic in front of you, they are right. I can still remember the art behind the entires, and Rob and Shag do a great job of helping me remember them as they discuss.
-
-_--_-_--_-2nd only to the original Aquaman and Firestorm PodcastMy introduction to podcast listening came from Rob and Shag's Aquaman and Firestorm podcast, and this feels like an extension of that show, just with WAY more characters. I love listening to this show, and Rob and Shag's thinly veiled (or is it veiled at all?) contentment for one another never fails to crack me up. It's great to hear their thoughts on the heroes and villains of the DCU.
-
Tom PanareseNot only thorough, but so much funI don't know if I can say much more than the praise that's already been heaped upon this podcast, but Rob and Shag have taken on the task of going through one of my favorite all-time series and really do a great job. They both have a love for Who's Who, DC Comics, and all of the varied characters that have been part of the company's long history. The coverage is great and the chemistry between the two of them is even better.
-
Brother HeadA joy to listen to.Every month Shag and Rob bring us another wonderful edtion of the Who's Who podcast. This is a great podcast that covers the wonderful Who's Who series. Can't wait for the gang to get to the loose leaf books. This is one podcast you should be listening to.
-
DSandRSWhere Did All These Heroes Come From? The Irredeemable Shagg and Aquamazing Rob Kelly take listeners through the multitude of Who's Who series from DC Comics introducing you to more heroes than you could ever remember. Thank goodness these two guys are here to help it all make sense ... mostly!
-
Clinton RobisonAmazing for all Classic DC fansFans of Northwind and Composite Superman need not apply.
-
PiperruthWho's Who's Who's PodcastThe Irredeemable Shag and Rob Kelly love the definitive guide to DC Comics, Who's Who. They have become the definitive guides to this series, talking about each entry contained therein. If you have trouble picking a favorite character, why not listen to a show that covers all of them? You don't need to have the books in front of you to enjoy the episodes, but listening to these guys gush about the art for the entries makes me want to collect them all! Highly entertaining and highly recommended by me! They also let you know where you can hear more about any character that piques your interest, if they know of any podcast that covers them, as they are well connected to comic book podcasts.
-
Angry HeroA fine show!I found this podcast while reverse-searching the DC version of the "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” painting. It rekindled my interest in comic books and comic book collecting. I now blame Shag and Rob for the swarms of terrible comics that I now collect regularly. I even made a podcast about it called WORST COLLECTION EVER that I tape with my wife. This show was regular staple of happiness for me as well during a bout with cancer that I had a few years back. Listening to them talk about the Who’s Who while collecting along with them gave me a lot of inspiration and brighter days, so thank you. This show is full of fun and memories and its comes from both a critical and fanboy (sorry) perspective that works so well. The hosts love the material and the medium and that comes through in spades on the podcast. You will be compelled to go out and buy all of the Who’s Who’s…just like I did. I’d give this 10 stars if I could. Keep up the great work.
-
GarrickMcNiderOne Of My Favorite ShowsAs a former Catholic I know all about the reaffirmation of faith. Well, Who's Who is my somewhat monthly reaffirmation of my DC Comics faith. The hosts are fun, irreverant, witty and sometimes dead wrong but I don't hold that against them. If you want a crash course in some of the older history of DC Comics then this is the show for you. - Michael Bailey, 0 time winner of the Yellow Dot Award.
-
ltrigg3Think you know DC Comics… Check the rich history that you might be missingFinally a podcast on my all time favorite comic book. Come all for expiration of the history of characters, writers, and artist of DC. Warning: If you start, your wallet will become lighter as you dig for those back issues.
-
MichaelcpaAWESOME Podcast!! Great for Repeat Listening, tooWhat a Find!! Each podcast, I get out my Who's Who issue and follow along with Shag & Rob. The pre-episode research is great; straight forward judgements on each entry; and their teamwork and humor brings it all together. Hoever, soon like Rob; I'll need to go out and locate the Who's Who in the Legion series.
-
Spider-GirlRemington ApprovesI was forced into listening to the first episode of Update '87, mainly because Shag guilt-tripped me, but also because I knew Barbara Gordon was going to be discussed and I needed to verify their facts. I have continued to listen to this show, not due to coercion, but because it is AMAZING! You would think that a podcast with major info-dumping would be slow and not engaging, but you would be WRONG! I have enjoyed each of these episodes, no matter how long they are. The information you learn about different characters in the DCU is one of the reasons why it is so great! The hosts are also great and fun, bringing wisdom, experience, and a good sense of humor! If you care to broaden your knowledge base or learn something you never knew about an obscure Green Lantern Core member, then this is the podcast for you!
-
G.B. BlackrockEverything You Wanted to Know, but Didn’t Know to AskThis podcast is like a trip through history, focusing as it does on the mid-80s to (eventually) 90s era, when DC sought to publish encyclopedic information on the characters they owned at the time. I suppose that the rise of the Internet makes such a publication less viable these days, but this was a wonderful resource of its age, and the hosts do a thorough job of providing context for the heroes and villains as they inhabited this specific era.

narcher78My Favorite PodcastIf you’re a fan of the greatest reference comic in the world, DC Comics’s Who’s Who, then you’ll love this podcast. Each episode is a trip down memory lane as the hosts discuss each page from the seminal series. Rob offers great art critiques while Shag tackles the often convoluted character histories. These guys have a great time poking fun at the books and each other, but always offer some great bits of DC Comics trivia. Go ahead and give them a listen… Brenda Pope would want you too.

SontaronWho's Who?With several entries I'm not sure if the show's name is based on the title of the DC work or the question their asking. But either way have fun finding out who is who in the DC universe.

Victor WachterWARNING: This podcast will make you love characters that you shouldn'tRob and Shagg do a great job walking you through each issue of the series. Over the course of each issue, you'll hear about all the characters you love, some others you've at least heard of, and then tons of others that you had no idea ever existed. This podcast was a great idea, giving us little bites of insight and perspective about all these characters. It also gives the podcast a timeless quality, so you can either start with the first episode or drop in with the latest. But beware: This podcast made me look at the awesome Steve Leialoha art for Johnny Thunder, and I am now unable to dislike the character as much as I should. You might find yourself inexplicably liking a member of Atari Force, the Omega Men or a New God who logic would otherwise tell you not to.
