zeit8593Worth a listen!I’ve never been a history buff and honestly hated it in school. This podcast has definitely changed my attitude towards knowledge of the past. The topics presented are interesting and always explained well with humor thrown in. I anxiously await the next episodes!

Dolewhip4meLove love loveI am not a pod cast person, until I found Dig! Its eye opening and packed full of interesting and important information. Such a great podcast.

Goatgirl30One of my favs :)I love listening to this podcast while I’m working. The jobs that I work allow me to wear headphones and this podcast is usually what I choose to listen to because I always learn so much!! I also really appreciate how they try to talk about underdiscussed issues and take a more intersectional and feminist approach to history. I’ve also sent Buffalo-related episodes to my dad because our family is originally from there and he enjoyed them too! He’s not usually a podcast guy. I’ve been listening to the whole back catalogue (including some from the History Buff days) and can’t wait to catch up :)

Chandler swiftBest history podcastThis is the best history podcast!! Every episode is fun and educational! I had the blessing to be able to meet the wonderful people who do these in a zoom call for my early America class in undergrad, and used these podcasts for that class, it helped so much! These are my go to listen to for understanding issues or learning about time periods and issues.

Bop. Bob.This is a GOOD podcast.I’ve been on the hunt for a good history podcast ever since Backstory closed its doors a few years ago and I think I found it. I believe I’ve listen to about four episodes now and I really enjoy them. I’m a historian myself and I have to say that ladies, I can’t wait to meet you at conferences. You’re doing incredible research and synthesis and your commentary is fire. I love the delivery and the whole concept here. Keep up the great work! (T. Irvine)

la phillyDeep divesI love the thoughtful research that goes into every episode. The website always recognizes the resources that informs each episode, offering ways that you can learn even more. Thank you for this work!

sooty chatNeed to invest in a pop filter …Please realize that you are producing content in an aural medium and learn to adjust speech sounds for microphone. Also, a little less labeling historical actors and a lot more source mentions and citations would provide the now lacking seriousness to this podcast. Edit: Lose playing recording bloopers at the end of episodes; takes away from the sincerely researched content. And one of you is still smacking your tongue inside your mouth; very distracting.

Sensei Evan HughesAddictiveI discovered this podcast in July and listened to the whole thing once over already, many twice and thrice. It’s amazing. It’s now part of my daily rotation neurdivergent-comfort-blanket-media along with Doctor Who and anything from my childhood.

videoejJust the BestTransparency: I’ve only listened to one episode, it’s a random one from the middle but I was so impressed by how thoroughly researched it was considering it was outside the typical realm of the podcast. Was moved to rave review.

JGregVAccidental findI stumbled upon this podcast by accident. I was researching a subject (I can’t remember which one at the moment) and this podcast popped up. I downloaded the episode that I wanted to listen to and I was hooked. The amount of research that you all do for your podcast is incredible. I really enjoy the detailed information that you provide and I love the banter as well. Anyway, I ended up downloading all of the podcast and I have about 20 left before I’ve heard them all. Keep it up and I really think you’re students are lucky to have you as their professors.

TonyaNGMGo Women Historians! As a history teacher in a primarily male department, I love being able to feel like I’m part of your intellectual conversation (the outtakes and realness…OMG). Thank you for not just sharing great stories and sources, but doing it in such a conversational way. I can’t wait to use some episodes in a new elective next fall. 💛💜🤍

GogglorMy favorite history podcastMeticulously well-documented, brilliantly presented, and incredibly informative.
-
Mandm_87Love it!I've always been a lover of history, but had never been exposed to history from such a critical background! I love the way the historians approach topics I *THOUGHT* I knew about and reframe them with their postmodern lenses!
-
fernmaddieA Treasure Trove of Historical ExplorationI only recently discovered this podcast, but I am so so so (so so so) happy that I did. I work a manufacturing job and am always looking to fill my long shifts with good listening content. Finding this podcast was like finding a gold mine - with their deep archives full of fascinating, under-explored historical topics, their fun and witty banter, and their well-thought out perspectives. It makes my day go by so fast to listen to these episodes!

taylor w1983PHENOMENALI adjunct for a masters program at Georgetown and work in global health and international policy- this podcast is equal parts background research and entertainment for me. The episodes are well researched, funny, interesting, and so useful. When I teach the unintended consequences of modern military action, I use the episode about women during the civil war. Cannot recommend enough. Brilliant work.

WelbornTiger3Superb accessible scholarshipAs an assistant professor of history at a liberal arts university in GA, I’ve had the pod on my radar since its inception but have only recently in the last six months begin listening regularly during my commute to campus. I wish I’d jumped in earlier, as every episode is thoroughly researched, well written, yet succinct, engaging, and accessible. Truly great work. I especially appreciated the conversation from the Texas and the Lost Cause episode on historical memory and emotion. As a white southern male teaching and researching the CWE, I found this discussion personally poignant and professionally profound, especially Dr. Masarik’s insightful perspectives. Thank y’all for your great work, and I hope to cross paths on the conference circuit in the future.
-
Holmstead FamilySeeing history thru false eyesThe narrow focus of the hosts’ PhD backgrounds leads to a narrow and erroneous interpretation of major historical events.

geekstorianLong Time ListenerI’ve listened to Dig for years. I love referring people to it - friends, acquaintances, people who visit the museum I work at...give me an opening and I gush about the scholarship & style. If I have time to listen to anything, I look first to see if there’s a new Dig episode.
-
grass eater 420Inspiring and HilariousI listened to an episode for a class and fell in love and Marissa even spoke in my class for a bit. I find myself fan-girling after every episode and telling anyone who will listen about what I’ve learned. These women do an amazing job connecting several different things to one central topic. Their sense of humor is amazing, their writing is wonderful, and their personalities are adorable. I’m a late listener but I am excited to listen to all the episodes in time. Keep up the amazing work!
-
centwineFun, unconventional historyI listen to podcasts at work to keep my mind from dissolving into statistical mush, so I’m pretty happy I found this one. The hosts keep a nice balance between casual delivery and serious research, with a focus on the obscure bits of history that have secretly have a big influence on our lives today. Pretty neat.

Scotty Baby 929Great Company! This show is such a fun, often informal, yet extremely well informed, take on History. Each episode starts from an easily grasped high level overview and then plunges deep into the details that even a well versed history fan will find enlightening. And I really enjoy the characterizations of speech of the various soothe sayers of old. Overall, a very entertaining program that makes for great company during these difficult, and often lonely Covid Times. Thank you for all your hard work and research.
-
KrazyHokAmazing! This podcast is super fun and covers so many amazing topics. I have been able to bring new information to my own students from this podcast. This podcast is my go-to listening for my commute.
-

Kimberly Br0ssiThe best there is!Amazing podcast! YES please do the history of childbirth episode.
-
BkpolandGreat content! But the accents...Very interesting content! But please stop it with the accents! It is so annoying that I delete the episode at the first accent imitation, because I know that it will happen over and over.
-
skippywolframIrreverent and wonderfulI love the approach, the research, the cursing, the humor, the outtakes.
-
karasmannequinFun and fascinatingThis is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to and the topics they choose are always interesting!

aliyulawalSkewed From On setRight from the biography of Martin and introduction of the podcast, there has been a complete bias and a one side judgement to your viewers/listeners. Example “... was way out of his field...“ You should let viewers make their opinion on matters of civilisation. What Bernal said was just reiteration of what others have been saying for decades like Robert Bauval, Dr. Philip Freeman, , Joe A. Freeman, Ivan Sertima, Chek Anta Diop, Chancellor Williams, Constantine De Voley, George M, Heredotous etc Martin is a core Caucasian that’s why it’s a burning and raging issue. Mary Lefkowitz is good at creating scenarios and giving inferences. It has never been an Afrocentric discuss that Socrates was black. You can’t isolate blacks from the Egyptian civilisation right from the 0th/1st dynasty by Narmer up till the 12th dynasty. Their features are quite revealing of their African ancestry and the MURALS of race classification found in the tomb of Rameses 3. Academics are the ones in denial, not the general public.
-
Hel-raiserFun and informative!I love the topics these ladies choose to cover and the cool insights they each bring to the discussion! I’ve learned so much. Gonna dig into the back catalogue!
-
joejs89Love this PodcastVery informative and very interesting. Look forward to each episode.

Bryan675Mostly greatI really appreciate the press on airing the lesser seen views of history the hosts go for, but there are times the “girl power” fist tends to raised a bit too fervently; to be fair, they usually give a “this will sound feminist” warning so at least they’re aware of it lol
-
jencoviGoddesses of HistoryThis podcast is incredible. The hosts are smart, funny and great story tellers. Their passion for history is contagious and I cannot get enough of them! There are a wide range of topics so anyone who has the slightest interest in history can find something they’ll enjoy learning more about. And you’ll sound smart when your friends ask you what you’re listening to!
-
Leah from TexasTerrific scholarsOMG- the La Petite Mort episode... everything I needed right now! Bravo, you wonderful smart women!! 😍😍
-
DrTankArtHistoryLove it!Entertaining, enjoyable, & informative! These historians present topics in an approachable manner that makes me keep listening! They are history nerds after my own heart with fun senses of humor. Thanks ladies!
-
SpacefunmarsGreat even if you know nothing about historyI am a history idiot, so it’s great to have the expertise of actual historians at my listening disposal. What I like best is how much context they give to historical events and why those things mattered (and often still matter).
-
Oceanai1Thought Provoking and FunIt’s not easy to get the balance of thought provoking content and levity. This podcast challenges my view of the history I learned from a textbook, and brings it to life with narratives and primary documents. So appreciate the reference to primary sources!!!
-
stealth007sThe history that makes us uncomfortable...I first listened to this podcast to research a fictional character I was developing. It was the episode on sex and sex workers during the gilded age in NYC. They deal with the details of history and life from the perspective of the marginalized... women, immigrants, African Americans etc as well as understanding that the context of the times and culture is imperative to understanding history, not just from the middle class white male, which, is what we’ve been taught for so long that it’s uncomfortable to hear the truth of how people lived and struggled. I’m glad someone is talking about it. I’m now hooked on this and listen every chance I get!
-
753spqrIdeology from the leftQuite disappointing indeed. Not surprisingly, given the make up of the producers of this podcast, the show is light on history and heavy on ideology from the left. Far better and more objective historical podcasts are available.
-
biolophileNew FavoriteThis podcast has become one of my top favorites. I’ve always enjoyed history, but American history has never held much interest for me. At first, I was afraid it might be too focused on American history for my taste. They do cover plenty of topics outside American history though, and so I gave it a chance. I really like Dig’s format, with the historians presenting different aspects of the same topic, and the more I listen to the podcast and get to know the historians the more engaging the episodes are. I’ve even developed a new love of American history! My only regret is that I binged the episodes too quickly, and now I’m impatiently waiting for more. Thanks for a terrific podcast. You’re the best!
-
Mary.cm19Love it!I really enjoy the unique topics these women discuss in-depth, and how they relate to our understanding of the present.
-
Dr.TrixieFabulousLove the humor, warmth, intelligence of these ladies. Keep it going!
-
lovinglaurensdigging thishi! i’m a new listener and i absolutely love the podcast. dig is one of the best history podcasts i’ve ever listened to. each topic is so well researched and covered. i just finished the true crime series and i love the way they were covered. it was so much more than just the story, it took so much i would have never thought about it perspective!! thanks for making me think!! also, i think it’s Averill who lived in VT, correct me if i’m wrong, but i also lived in small town VT for a year and while it was beautiful i don’t know how people can live there forever, but shoutout to vermont
-
HodieDieFabThe hosts are thoughtful and knowledgeable, and they deliver information on really fascinating topics in a way that respects the intelligence of the listner while staying friendly, down to earth, and fun. Strong recommend; hope it never stops.
-
N.D.CampbellGood and interestingThey cover a variety of topics and post a transcript and their sources on the website, which I appreciate. Always have to stay all the way to the end for outtakes. Also: ‘gerontocratic’ is the best word ever

ERBeckmanExcellent resource, and entertainingAs a high school world history teacher, I have found these episodes to be very useful. DiG historians have deepened my content knowledge, and entertained me on my commute. Keep up the good work!

Donna207great: diverse and captivatingFound subject related to tv show Babylon Berlin about which I've become interested. Then, fortunately saw the topics on this historical podcast are super diverse and interesting with different historian narrators. Check it out, I love it.
-
YogiMamaSkyeDaily DigI have blown through every available episode of this podcast in three weeks. I listen to it while walking home from dropping my son off at school, in the car, washing the dishes, and, full disclosure, even take an extra long time in the bathroom just to finish an episode. I love the feminist take on history and the level of research and cultural connections that go into each episode, not mention making it entertaining, relatable, and digestible for us lay historians out there. Thank you!
-
__MicheleI love this podcast!I love how Averill, Marissa, Sara, & Elizabeth explore themes and events in history that I thought teachers taught us about in school, but they talk about the femistist and racial aspects that none of my (older white male) teachers would have even considered relevant. It makes history so much more relevant to my current life. I look forward to a new episode each week! Thank you!
